Summer is upon us in Boston and gallery doors are propped open, welcoming visitors to come in and enjoy the exciting exhibitions on view this month! We put together a list of 5 gallery shows we recommend seeing:

1. Anderson Yezerski Gallery

"The days pass like shadows" by artist Tim McCool

On view: May 10-June 15, 2024

In Tim McCool’s first exhibition with Anderson Yezerski Gallery, The days pass like shadows, his paintings are influenced by sundials and the passage of time that their shadows indicate. In these works, the viewer recognizes the urban environments where satellite dishes, fire escapes, and street signs can also act as sundials. Click to visit website.

2. Vose Galleries

"Force of Nature: Karl Schrag in Maine" by artist Karl Schrag

On view: May 16-June 27, 2024

Karl Schrag (1912-1995) was a talented painter and printmaker who drew from nature’s aura and movement to create over thirty paintings inspired by the beauty and unpredictability of Maine’s wilderness. These works are now on display at Vose Galleries in their exhibition, Force of Nature: Karl Schrag in Maine. Click to visit website.

3. LaiSun Keane

"Calibration" featuring artists Audrey An, Raina Lee, Cathay Lu, and Dnyang Song

On view: May 24-July 7, 2024

Calibration, a group exhibition featuring the ceramic works of Audrey An, Raina Lee, Cathay Lu, and Dnyang Song, highlights the intersection of ceramics and 3D printing technology. While most of these pieces were created using 3D printing, each reflects the artist’s individuality through the work’s color, glazing, and firing process. As these artists are all immigrants, or children of immigrants, from East Asian countries, this exhibition also represents the necessity to mold themselves to different cultural spaces and languages. Click to visit website.

4. Lamontagne Gallery

"Time Regained" by artist Salvatore Del Deo

On view: June 1-July 13, 2024

As Salvatore Del Deo approaches his 96th birthday, LaMontagne Gallery displays works that span his entire career in this solo exhibition, Time Regained. Salvatore played an important role by fostering and strengthening the modern art scene in Provincetown, and many of his works are inspired by his life there. Click to visit website.

5. Abigail Ogilvy Gallery

"One Eye Closed" by artist Coral Woodbury

On view: June 19-August 4, 2024

Coral Woodbury Nude ModelCoral Woodbury, Nude Model, 2024, Oil on canvas, 34 x 40 in.

In her solo exhibition, One Eye Closed, Coral Woodbury critically analyzes Western art history through a feminist lens. She reinterprets classic Western paintings that often devalued or omitted women completely. The show’s title suggests that our half-blind view of this history lacks depth, color, and texture that can be regained through a feminist art perspective. Click to visit website.
