The fall season of ArtWeek in Boston is about to begin, and there are some exciting events in the line-up. ArtWeek Boston is a great way to get out and about the city, exploring the rich and diverse arts culture of Boston. Here are 5 visual arts-focused events that we can’t wait to participate in.
1. One Too Many
October 1, 1 – 2 pm at Boston Athenaeum

This unique performance piece by Stefanos Tsivopoulos showcases photography from different political rallies from the era of Metapolitefsi, or policy/regime change, in Greece. The event will be accompanied by a talk given by Lanfranco Aceti, the Director of Arts and Administration at Boston University.
2. Run of the Mills: Searching for a Phase Change

October 1, 8 – 9 pm at Boston Center for the Arts
This is the second year that Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) Mills Gallery has featured its “Run of the Mills” series, which is an immersive, multimedia performance. Searching for a Phase Change, a collaboration with visual artists Yan Jiemin and Mirana Zuger, explores the concept of communication with a multi-sensory interactive exhibition that merges dance and written language. During this ArtWeek event, audience members are invited to write on oversized, suspended sheets of paper that will be incorporated into the performance.
3. Community Mural Paint Nite
October 3, 7 – 9 pm at Slumbrew Assembly Row Beer Garden
October 4, 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Aeronaut Brewing Company

The artists of Paint Nite come together with these two Somerville breweries for two nights of beer and art, which takes painting out of the studio and into the community. Boston is invited to participate in an energetic mural painting collaboration, guided by professional artists.
4. Media Art Opening and Artist Talk in the Greenway Conservancy
October 6, 5 – 7 pm at the Boston Harbor Islands Welcome Center

The National Park and Service and Boston CyberArts are collaborating for the sixth media art project on the screens at the Boston Harbor Islands Welcome Center. This opening event includes a talk with artist and video game designer Anthony Montuori, who is commissioned to create an algorithmic art piece on the large, low-res screens flanking the Welcome Center.
5. Are You Here? Project with Artist Jonathan Gitelson
October 8, 12 – 3 pm at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum

Take a break from the city at the deCordova’s Sculpture Park, where Vermont-based artist, Jonathan Gitelson will be opening his billboard project, Are You Here?, which plays with the concept of “You Are Here” markers found on maps. This afternoon event offers the unique opportunity to not only converse with the artist, but also create your own work side-by-side with him.
