This painting is inspired by Poland in August, which is super lush and wild- every range of green, and filled with blooming fields of wildflowers, grasses and vines. I love the fragrant, sap green summer air- it's almost palpable. My warm childhood memories visiting my grandparents with my siblings now mix with my recent trips visiting extended family with Dan and Felix and make the experience of sharing my homeland with my son even more magical. Even though this painting is inspired primarily by Poland in the summertime, I painted it in Santa Fe, NM, which is another place imbued with magic and meaning for me. The minute I land in Santa Fe, I need to paint- the landscape is truly enchanted and I feel so clear and eager to dive into a canvas. So inevitably, I credit Santa Fe's magical light and gorgeous nature for encouraging me to capture my love and memory of summer bliss in Poland on canvas.
