The piece is based on a song from long ago. It is abstract, and so is the song. Both go back to my second studio in Brooklyn, 2005-2007, on Washington Street, right by the Brooklyn Bridge. I was living with an older lady who had acute MS, who was renting part of her old Dumbo loft to me. She had been in that neighborhood for 25 years... and the freight elevator opened its loud doors right inside our apartment living room. It was rent-controlled, but she was harassed for a decade to move out, and shortly after I moved out (for unrelated reasons) she did, too. The song goes back to that studio, and the piece is based on some smaller studies that I made back then, a few steps from that elevator.
