Exploring Paris, the Latin Quarter in summer, a sudden rain. As a traveller, so much of a place you are foreign to hides itself. But there are rare moments when a city reveals itself unexpectedly. Amidst a midday tangle of streets just off the Seine, an alley suddenly broadens into a street of cafes, bicycles, deliveries, people. Blue sky appears, sunlight dazzles, the sudden shift of light sending the wet pavement into glistening color, a broken mirror reflecting the city, and in this moment perhaps even baring a little bit of its soul.
