This work is based on images from a trip my wife and I took in Oct 2018, walking the streets of Paris for four days, the best way to see a city! In French, a passage cloute is a striped road crossing, what the English call a zebra (pronounced to rhyme with Deborah) crossing. I love the play of light it gives, and hidden in the far distance is the first hint of the Pompidou center square. It was an exciting moment for me, about to immerse myself in the past and present of amazing art, and this moment at the crossing felt important, like a transcendent flicker in reality. Approaching Centre Pompidou, just before its web of white steel is visible through the trees. In the air that salty tang of expectation: a trust that the energy of the ancestors is there, our expectations will be met—or shattered, our understanding broadened and our lives made better. Passing from the light into shadow, and then back—what we all must do in life to get where we want to be.
