My wife Nadya and I did spend a few days in Paris, it was in the fall of 2018, exploring around on foot--my favorite way to get to know the heartbeat of a city. The day we ended up in Gare du Nord was a beautiful, sunny fall afternoon en route to Sacre Coeur. Stepping inside, your eyes adjust, and then--wow!-- the light from the clerestory and ceiling filtering down through the 19th century cast iron framework--like a painting brought to life. In this piece I focused on the end wall, an amazing collage of colored light through dusty glass windows. This massive wall of light lends the space almost a spiritual feel, like a temple to travel--out of the gray dust of the trainyard rises its own unique cathedral.
